Chris Wallace Says He’s ‘Just Sad With The Way Last Night Turned Out’

Chris Wallace, the anchor of “Fox News Sunday” and moderator of last night’s presidential debate, told The New York Times today that he was “just sad” with the way the “night turned out.”

Wallace said that although he was “a pro,” he had “never been through anything like this” and that he “never dreamt that it would go off the tracks the way it did.”

He added that he had “read some of the reviews, I know people think, Well, gee, I didn’t jump in soon enough.” He then blamed President Trump for his “strategy.”

“I guess I didn’t realize — and there was no way you could, hindsight being 20/20 — that this was going to be the president’s strategy, not just for the beginning of the debate but the entire debate,” he said.

Prior to the debate, said that he wanted to be as “invisible” as possible. Wallace insisted, “If I’ve done my job right, at the end of the night people will say, ‘That was a great debate. Who was the moderator?'”

It is not likely that will be the case at this point, as many on the right called for his removal from his job at Fox News. Georgia Republican Congressional candidate Marjorie Greene tweeted out after the debate, “Fox News needs to FIRE Chris Wallace! RT if you agree!” It has been retweeted nearly 22k times.

Texas Republican Congressional candidate Ronny Jackson echoed her sentiment in a tweet, saying, “Fire Chris Wallace! He is an embarrassment to Fox News!!”

Newsmax TV host Michelle Malkin tweeted out to “DISAVOW CHRIS WALLACE.” She also called him the “Democrats’ nurse aide” for their candidate in the debate, Joe Biden.
