U.S. House Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) has been selected as the Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee for the 118th Congress.
Green was selected over U.S. House Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX). It appears that after Crenshaw said, “we cannot let the terrorists win” about his House GOP colleagues who were voting against Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for Speaker of the House, Crenshaw drew backlash for his divisive commentary.
Crenshaw later apologized for his words trying to explain it away as a “turn of phrase”.
Green gave a statement to Fox News Digital, “For the sake of our national security and homeland security, we must secure our border. We have no choice. We will empower our brave CBP agents to do their jobs and hold President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas accountable for the crisis that they created.”
This looks like a roundabout win for Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and the other 19 dissenters who stood against McCarthy, some might say part of the swamp just drained itself.
