Dem Lt. Gov. of NY Resigns in Shame Hours After his Office Denied any Wrongdoing Regarding Indictment and then Arrest

New York Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin was indicted, arrested, and resigned, all on the same day. This deals another blow to the scandal-ridden New York Democrats.

“I have accepted Brian Benjamin’s resignation effective immediately,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said today in a statement late this afternoon. “While the legal process plays out, it is clear to both of us that he cannot continue to serve as lieutenant governor. New Yorkers deserve absolute confidence in their government, and I will continue working every day to deliver for them.”

Earlier we reported on the indictment, and how Benjamin himself was for defunding the police, although he made weak attempts to backtrack somewhat on that position.

Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York spoke at a press conference today in a scathing rebuke to the anti-police now-former Lt. Gov.

“Taxpayer money for campaign contributions, quid pro quo, this for that, that’s bribery this for that, plain and simple.”

Now Governor Kathy Hochul, formerly the Lt. Gov. claimed she was going to end corruption during her time vetting Benjamin according to the video below:

This doesn’t bode well for Democrats after the Cuomo resignation as well, and we will see if more corruption is uncovered as Benjamin tries to save himself, and who the next, next Lt. Gov. will be now.

Before being arrested earlier today, the Lt. Gov.’s office issued this statement:

“Neither Lieutenant Governor Benjamin nor his campaign are being accused of any wrongdoing and they are prepared to fully cooperate with authorities. As soon as the campaign discovered that these contributions were improperly sourced, they donated them to the Campaign Finance Board, pursuant to guidance obtained from the CFB.”
