Former President Barack Obama commented on the border crisis in an interview with ABC saying that open borders are not sustainable.
“From Barack Obama, today: ‘We’re a nation-state. We have borders. The idea that we can just have open borders is something that … as a practical matter, is unsustainable.'”

Obama commented on the ongoing border crisis as many might say Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been asleep at the wheel while thousands of unvetted migrants pour in through the southern border. Recently Haitians attempting to enter the U.S. have crossed into Del Rio, Texas setting up migrant camps.
The former president said, “It is heartbreaking, and it is, I think, one of those situations in which if you have a system that overall is dysfunctional, you are going to get episodes in which what’s happening right in front of you is something that nobody wants.” Some may pose the question, “Why is the system so dysfunctional right now if you had eight years in office to fix it?”.
He continued, “We’re a nation-state. We have borders. The idea that we can just have open borders is something that … as a practical matter, is unsustainable.” This statement may anger some on the left as many Democrats have called for full-on open borders as potential Democrat voters continue to come in unchecked.
Obama seems to be taking a more middle-of-the-road stance as he is at least being against full-on open borders where anyone can come in as the U.S. has seen in the last seven months. If open borders are not sustainable we will have to see how long this will last until something gives.
