Chuck Todd asked California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, “Why shouldn’t we consider you a likely candidate?” Newsom laughingly answered, “I think the vice president is naturally the one lined up, the filing deadlines are quickly coming to pass and I think we need to move past this notion that he’s [Joe Biden] not going to run.”
Newsom continued, “We’re looking forward to getting him reelected… We’re gearing up for the campaign, we’re looking forward to it.” Todd then asked about donors who have made calls to him that are “wallowing” over Biden for 2024 “What do you tell these donors?” “Time to move on,” Newsom stated. “Let’s go.”
He then again declared his support for Kamala Harris if Biden decided he wasn’t going to run at this point.

There has been much speculation that Newsom was looking to throw his hat in the ring and challenge Biden in the 2024 election. It appears that Newsom is putting the rumors to rest.
Newsom and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had agreed to debate this year, which only fueled speculation that Newsom was considering a run for president. With Newsom’s declaration, of no intent to run and to fully support Biden-Harris for 2024 this debate seems like it may be a complete waste of time.
Polling has shown it is a tight race between Biden and former President Trump who are speculated to be on the ticket in 2024. The close polls have Democrats nervous. Gov. Newsom has fallen in line to support Biden and Harris if Biden should decide he no longer wishes to run for reflection.
Currently, Joe Biden has two challengers to his 2024 bid, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson. While there have been calls for Biden to debate his challengers, he has continually brushed them off.
It appears the DNC will be standing behind Biden and Harris.
