H.R. McMaster Shares He ‘Was Never Uncomfortable’ With Trump’s ‘Handling of Classified Information’

On Sunday, Former national security adviser H.R. McMaster shared that he “did not see any problems” with the way the Trump administration handled classified information while serving the former president.

McMaster sat down with Margret Brennan on CBS News’s “Face the Nation” to talk about Russia and Ukraine. After discussing the situation in Ukraine McMaster was asked in lieu of the investigation into documents former President Donald Trump took home “were you ever uncomfortable with the former president’s handling of classified information?”

McMaster shakes his head no and replies, “Well Margret remember I left in February March of 2018. While I was there I did not see any problems in handling of classified information. And if what you’re talking bout really is a session in which the president did not disclose classified information[referring back to a leak from within the White House the host brought up earlier.]”

The Brennan then asks again, “Just to button up the question I asked you, that was a no you were never uncomfortable with the handling of classified information.”

McMaster again shakes his head no and says, “No, There were systems in place. I don’t know what happened to those systems, but I was never uncomfortable with it while I was there”

“While I was there, I did not see any problems in handling of classified information,” was the message from McMaster. It seems that wasn’t quite the answer Brennan was looking for asking him to clarify his very clear answer.

McMaster served in the Trump administration from February 2017 to March 2018. The questioning was spurred by an investigation launched by the Department of Justice into the handling of classified records by former President Trump.

The investigation sparked media interest after a raid was performed on the former president’s Florida home in August.

As of last week the National Archives, which sparked the investigation is claiming they are still missing some documents from Trump.

It is not uncommon for presidents to take documents with them went they leave office, however, this is the first time action like raiding a former president’s home has taken place in response.
