Hawley Decries ‘Vigil’ Held Outside His D.C. Home: ‘My Family & I Will Not Be Intimidated By Leftwing Violence’

Earlier tonight, a group called “ShutDownDC” held what they called a “vigil” outside of Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley’s Washington D.C. home to protest his decision to challenge the certification of the electoral college.

Tweeting out a live stream of their actions, the group said, “Tonight we dropped in at the home of @HawleyMO to encourage him to end his attack on democracy. Let’s be clear, Hawley and his pals are doing real and serious damage to our democracy. And they’re emboldening thugs like the #ProudBoys

Hawley responded to the group’s actions by tweeting out, “Tonight while I was in Missouri, Antifa scumbags came to our place in DC and threatened my wife and newborn daughter, who can’t travel.”

“They screamed threats, vandalized, and tried to pound open our door. Let me be clear: My family & I will not be intimidated by leftwing violence,” Hawley added.

Washington Post reporter Mike DeBonis took issue with Hawley’s characterization of the incident and quote tweeted his tweet and said, “‘Antifa scumbags’ = @ShutDown_DC They described their protest as an ‘hour long vigil.'”

Hawley responded by quote tweeting DeBonis and he said, sarcasticly, “Now ‘vigil’ means screaming threats through bullhorns, vandalizing property, pounding on the doors of homes and terrorizing innocent people and children.”

Journalist Michelle Malkin was following the situation and in a tweet, urged Hawley: “So TAKE ACTION: Press charges. Hire private security. Use your power to make @shutdown_dc pay…and purge them from the federal government.”
