Ilhan Omar Wants Every Illegal Immigrant in the United States to Have ‘Pathway to Citizenship’

In a recent tweet, member of “The Squad” and U.S. House Rep Ilhan Omar (D-MN) declared that there should be a “pathway to citizenship” for every illegal immigrant in the United States.

This is a new pivot for the sophomore Congresswoman, who says on her website that she was “fighting for a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients.”

In the tweet, Omar included all who have immigrated to the country illegally and said, “We must create a pathway to citizenship for all undocumented people living here.”

Omar apparently came to that conclusion after she had “Met with activists with @Chirla, who have been fasting for days to push for a pathway to citizenship.”

“Immigrants get the job done,” Omar added and she shared a picture of herself apparently with members from the group while standing in front of various flags including the American and transgender flags.

CHIRLA stands for The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights and is a Los Angeles county-based organization focusing on immigrant rights.

According to one petition on their website, they are urging the Biden administration and Congress to “immediately protect immigrants who build up this country and this democracy even as white supremacists try to destroy it.”

On Omar’s website, Omar insists that she is “committed to doing all I can to help the over 11 million undocumented immigrations living in the United States come out of the shadows and get access to rights and privileges they deserve.”

“Just as importantly, we cannot continue to ignore the plight of migrants and refugees, which is why I’m pushing for a return to our historical role as a leader in refugee resettlement and reform of our existing policies abroad that are causing people to flee their homes for a safer future,” the website reads.

The meeting apparently occurred last week as CHIRLA tweeted on Friday “Thank you @Ilhan for reminding us to not give up hope. She reiterated that Congress is currently having conversations about legalization for all the 11 million. #Fastforfamilies#yestoimmigrants

The next day, the group shared another tweet showing they apparently had the support of California Democratic House Rep Juan Vargas, and said, “Thank you for supporting legalization for the 11 million through reconciliation.”

The group has had other Democratic representatives meet with them since they arrived in Washington D.C, having left on June 21 according to a tweet they shared.
