House Minority leader Kevin Mccarthy (R-CA) stated today that Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) doesn’t have the votes needed to remain as speaker of the house.
Multiple reports have come out backing up this claim.
This comes as Republicans are making gains in the house. The Republicans have now gained 6 seats in the house and the Democrats have lost 5.
Some may be excited following this report however, chances are it will be someone who is much more left-wing than Nancy Pelosi who is liberal, but not as far left as AOC.
Republicans won’t take back the house but they will have more control and take away some of the power Democrats hold like choosing the Speaker of the house.
If the new speaker is more progressive this could hurt Republicans. Though most have come to dislike Pelosi as she has led the impeachment effort against the President and has not talked to him for over a year.
Nevertheless, a fresh speaker of the house may be a good thing for the Republicans as they may have a chance to work together as once again, Congress will most likely be split by the parties.
