Kevin McCarthy Threatens Impeachment Inquiry into Merrick Garland Over ‘Weaponization of DOJ’

Last Thursday, IRS whistleblower Gary Sharpley testified that David Weiss, the US Attorney in charge of the Hunter Biden investigation, shared that he wanted to bring charges against Hunter but was denied. Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (CA) replied to the revelation in a tweet.

“We need to get to the facts, and that includes reconciling these clear disparities. U.S. Attorney David Weiss must provide answers to the House Judiciary Committee. If the whistleblowers’ allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland’s weaponization of DOJ.”

On Monday, McCarthy announced that an impeachment inquiry into Garland will begin by July 6 if the whistleblower’s statement checks out. McCarthy shared that Weiss must appear before the House Judiciary Committee to discuss the allegation.

“By July 6, because of the allegations by the IRS, because of the whistleblower, and the DOJ – Garland – what he is saying and what David Weiss is saying privately are two different things. And if it comes true what the IRS whistleblower is saying, we’re going to start impeachment inquiries on the attorney general,” McCarthy told Fox and Friends hosts.

“What’s interesting is the IRS whistleblower that has no political background, took copious notes, can tell you the date, can tell you the people in the meeting,” he shared.

According to Sharpley “U.S. Attorney Weiss stated that he subsequently asked for special counsel authority from Main DOJ at that time and was denied that authority.”

McCarthy went on, “Every single day we’re [House Repubicans] bringing people in. This is why you have the bank statements now. This is why you know about the 1023 This is why you know about WhatsApp. We’re continuing to do our information much different than anybody else.”

“Now we’ve found the president has lied to us because he said they’ve never dealt with anything in China. Now, the [IRS] whistleblower says that he was in a meeting with the Chinese company as the vice president.”

Garland told reporters on Friday that Weiss, “was given complete authority to make all decisions on his own. I don’t know how it would be possible for anybody to block him from bringing a prosecution.”

Trying to defend himself, Garland added, “‘Some have chosen to attack the integrity of the Justice Department by claiming that we do not treat cases alike. This constitutes an attack on an institution that is essential to American democracy.”

U.S. House Rep. Jason Smith shared a WhatsApp message that was sent by Hunter Biden to a Chinese businessman on Twitter. The message appears to be fairly damaging for Joe and Hunter Biden.

The message reads, “I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it goes out of hand, and now means tonight. And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.”

Smith spoke to Fox News about the message and the context. You can see the video below:

It seems that House Republicans have taken the ball and run with it in the investigation into the Biden family and their alleged criminal dealings with foreign entities.

McCarthy appears ready to take things the to next level and start with the impeachment of Merrick Garland as long as everything is corroborated.
