KJP Sympathizes with ‘Trans Community, as they are under Attack’ After Tennessee Shooting

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre shared, “Our hearts go out to the trans community, as they are under attack right now,” during today’s press conference.

Her words seem tone deaf coming in the same week that six were fatally shot by a transgender shooter at The Covenant School in Nashville, TN.

KJP was asked about protests planned for Friday where activists will be “taking to the streets to protest” as Republican state legislatures have moved to ban transgender surgeries for minors. In response, KJP made it clear on the White House’s position.

There was no call for activists to delay their protests or be tactful. Instead, the targeted attack by a transgender individual that took place at a Christian school was completely ignored. Instead, KJP went on about LGBTQ and especially trans rights. She even called the bill an attack against trans kids, only adding to the negative rhetoric.

TownHall shared the clip on Twitter:

“KJP is asked about activists “taking to the streets to protest” Republican legislation banning transgender surgeries for minors: “We support peaceful protest…We should be lifting up our trans kids!”

While Senator Josh Hawley asked for the FBI and the department of homeland security to investigate the mass shooting on Monday as a hate crime, the messaging from The White House makes it appears to some that isn’t even on the table.
