Lawrence Jones Asks Pro Abortion Dem Voter if His then 16 Year Old Mom Should Have had an Abortion

On Saturday’s Lawrence Jones Cross Country, Jones sat down with a panel of Pennsylvania voters to discuss a myriad of issues important to them ahead of the midterms.

The topic of abortion was brought up. One woman described abortion as going out getting pregnant and “discarding a baby”. A female democrat on the panel quickly retorted.

“I don’t think it’s discarding a baby when you stop to think about [it], an abortion pill costs $150, $200 bucks. A medical procedure to have an abortion can cost several thousand dollars, [the] cost to have a child is $13,000 dollars.”

She continued, “You put someone who is living below the poverty level, which by the way 47% of the people who have had abortions in the past few years live below the poverty level. You put somebody who living at that level, requiring a bill of $13,000 if they were below poverty before they will be much further below poverty.”

This seemed to bother Jones and he responded, “So, What do you say to kids like me? My mom got pregnant with me at 16. And a lot of people told her it was a financial decision ”

The woman then asked, “What would I say to her? What was her name?” Jones replied, “Tameria”. The woman then replied, “Tameria, what’s your choice?”

Jones then said, “We made it just fine, and I mean I’m the youngest person on national TV so we did just fine. My dad married her, but she had also people there to support her as well. So I understand about choice and I do understand, but something rings in my ear when I hear financial decision of someone like me not being able to exist.”

The woman’s eyebrows raise and she puts her hand out replying, “I did not say have an abortion based on financial decision. I said the decision is yours.”

The man sitting next to her calls her out, “That was the implication.” The woman interrupts him with, “I was talking about the economic impact to America if in fact abortion is banned.”

Jones then says, “I guess my question is are babies more than just dollar signs?”

The woman quickly responds, “Of course they are.”

Jones then points out that the majority of people that make those decisions are mostly black mothers. He added that the “leading cause of death” among “Black children” is abortion.

In our view:

Many people find it easy to spew talking points in favor of abortion, but when confronted by someone who would potentially have been aborted based on those talking points seem to scramble to walk them back or provide an exit road for themselves.

This is an issue that hits close to home for Jones, as his mother was young when she had him. His parents were not in the position many people believe you have to be in order to have children.

The woman, in the end, acknowledged that babies are more than just a financial decision, but still believes abortion should be an option.

It wasn’t made clear in her argument but in part, it seems she is in favor of abortion because it puts a financial burden on America, according to her argument.
