Michael Steele Calls Himself An American First and Then ‘A Conservative and A Republican’ Voting for Biden

Senior advisor to the Lincoln Project Michael Steele wrote an Op-Ed today for NBC News insisting that he is a conservative and a Republican who is voting for Joe Biden on Nov. 3. In the piece, he says that he an American first, so that is why he has chosen to vote for Biden.

Steele touted the fact that he “chaired the Republican National Committee after two of the most devastating election cycles in GOP history” from 2009-2011.

Last month, he appeared on MSNBC, where is a guest commentator and advised Democrats to, “stop treating Donald Trump as if he is an actual president of the United States, he is not, he’s playing one on TV.”

In an ad for the Lincoln Project, he described a failed assassination attempt of Abraham Lincoln when he first took office and went on to say that this election is a choice between “America” or “Trump.”

Steele claimed in the op-ed that “Rather than binding up the nation’s wounds, Trump exacerbates division. Rather than standing up to the world’s dictators, Trump cravenly seeks the favor of thugs.”

Sharing the op-ed on Twitter, Steele said, “My party may have given up it’s voice on things that matter but I have not. This election is about the course of a nation and the character of her people reflected in the leader they choose. America matters. I’m voting for ⁦Joe Biden.”

Former DNC Chair and Fox News contributor Donna Brazile applauded the endorsement, tweeting, “Michael Steele, former RNC Chairman, has endorsed Joe Biden for President. His statement on MSNBC is powerful.”
