YouTube will be hosting a “Dear Class of 2020” virtual graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 6th for this year’s graduates, who have been unable to have one in-person.
Headlining the virtual event will be former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, who will each deliver individual commencement speeches — and a joint message — to graduates. Mrs. Obama’s Reach Higher initiative will host a full hour of content to start it off.
Other commencement speakers for the event will include BTS, Lady Gaga, former Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Malala Yousafzai. BTS and others will perform at a virtual grad night after-party.
The former first lady tweeted out that she knows “how hard the #Classof2020 has worked to make it to graduation.” She said that regardless of whether “you’re graduating from high school, college, or any other kind of school” she wants you to join.
Whether you’re graduating from high school, college, or any other kind of school––we want you, your family, and all of your loved ones to be a part of this celebration. Tune in @Youtube on June 6 at https://t.co/VIQRGjEyuZ. Can't wait to see you there!

The former president said that he’s “always loved joining commencements.” He also announced two additional virtual ceremonies he will take part in on Saturday, May 16th including one specifically for HBCU’s.
I’ve always loved joining commencements––the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. Even if we can’t get together in person this year, Michelle and I are excited to celebrate the nationwide Class of 2020 and recognize this milestone with you and your loved ones. pic.twitter.com/ngR2ykx3A2
