Musk Ready to Throw Down Gauntlet With Scammers, Will Suspend them and Keep the $8 if They Try to Impersonate People

Thinking about getting a blue check Twitter account to possibly impersonate someone else? Elon Musk just shared he isn’t going to stand for it.

Musk was asked by a Twitter user, “What if someone impersonate[s] the previously ‘verified profiles’ with a new profile having a ‘paid blue tick?”

“Great question. Twitter will suspend the account attempting impersonation and keep the money! So if scammers want to do this a million times, that’s just a whole bunch of free money,” he replied, adding a gif of Clint Eastwood saying “Go ahead, make my day.”

Part of Musk’s strategy with Twitter is to make the blue checkmark attainable for all. The blue checkmark will now cost $8 a month and it seems they will be verifying the identity of the account owner as well.

This revelation has seemed to upset some of the ‘elites’ who already had blue checkmarks and are upset that going forward to keep it they will have to pay. There is also speculation that the discomfort with this is also because it grants common everyday people the ability to also attain blue check status by simply paying for it.

Musk originally proposed it be $20 a month, and then after criticism from Stephen King came down to the $8 proposition.

The outrage came forth from everyone’s favorite liberal congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

William Shatner has no plans to pay for the blue checkmark he has had for the past 13 years. Although if it offers more to him he may change his mind, it seems he will be staying on Twitter and just may be unverified.

Musk seems to be adding more for blue check accounts, so they are getting something for their $8 a month. He just recently announced:

“Twitter will soon add ability to attach long-form text to tweets, ending absurdity of notepad screenshots”.

“Followed by creator monetization for all forms of content”.

Maybe this will be the start of appeasing those who don’t want to pay just to be a verified account. I guess time will tell if Musk can bring enough value to the subscription.

Another elitist upset with Musk’s Twitter takeover, Dan Rather, is trying to compare Musk to former President Donald Trump.

“Is Musk running Twitter like Trump ran his casinos?”

Twitter has struggled to be profitable along with major censoring contention, Musk it seems only wants to make the platform more open to thought exchange and debate and less of an echo chamber.

The complaining has been entertaining to watch. It seems wholly appropriate to say to the upset elites, “your privilege is showing.”
