Anne Applebaum, a senior writer for the Atlantic, made an appearance on MSNBC Wednesday in which she pushed the blame on former President Donald Trump for the Ukraine mess.

Applebaum said that “Much of the fault lies in the Trump Administration” in terms of the Ukraine situation. While Trump hasn’t been in office for more than a year, leftists appear to be blaming the former president for foreign policy gaffes.
She continued, “I think it’s also important to remember, going back to something that we talked about earlier, that Putin has made various efforts to undo western military support for Ukraine, including during the Trump Administration.”
While Democrats continue to argue that Trump is in the pockets of Russian President Vladimir Putin, many would say the reason Putin never made drastic military moves is because he believed Trump would respond strongly. Now that Trump is out of office, and the older Joe Biden currently holds the office, some may speculate Putin views Biden as weak and has thus made moves to invade Ukraine.
“If you remember, the argument over Trump’s first impeachment was about Trump refusing to give military aid to Ukraine because he imagined he could get some dirt on Joe Biden from the Ukrainians,” Applebaum claimed. “So why didn’t Putin do this during the Trump Administration? Because he thought Trump was weakening Ukraine, especially on this ground. The problem of Ukraine being unfortified goes back several years and much of the fault lies in the Trump Administration.”
While leftists may claim Trump was trying to weaken Ukraine in support of Russia, there doesn’t appear to be any substantial evidence of this but rather a baseless accusation. Meanwhile, Republicans may argue Biden has weakened the United States.
