Rand Paul to Ask DOJ in a Letter For a Criminal Referral For Dr. Fauci ‘Because He Has Lied To Congress’

U.S. Sen Rand Paul (R-KY) and Dr. Anthony Fauci had a contentious back-and-forth yesterday during a hearing in the Senate, where Paul accused the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of sharing responsibility for the COVID-19 outbreak.

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity last night, Paul declared that he will be criminally referring Fauci to the DOJ over his purported lies concerning gain-of-function funding.

Paul announced, “I will be sending a letter to the Department of Justice, asking for a criminal referral because he has lied to Congress.”

The mainstream media predictably have focused on Fauci’s responses, with MSNBC tweeting, “‘Senator Paul, you do not know what you’re talking about, quite frankly, and I want to say that officially,’ Dr. Fauci said after Sen. Paul accused Fauci of lying to Congress about the role the NIH played in funding research in Wuhan, China.”

Newsmax tweeted out a video of the exchange between Paul and Fauci and reported in the tweet, “Rand Paul grills Dr. Anthony Fauci about research in Wuhan: ‘All of the evidence is pointing that it came from the lab and there will be responsibility for those who funded the lab, including yourself.'”

Conservatives on Twitter applauded Paul including Juanita Broaddrick who stated, “Sen Rand Paul is a practicing MD and a Rock Star. He exposed Fraud Fauci big time.”

Susan St. James suggested, “You really have to watch Fauci answering Dr Rand Paul on a full tv screen in high definition to enjoy it, not on a phone. He looked panicked. His lips were trembling and he was shaking. You can see the fear. He was really scared. He committed a crime.”

Former Fox News anchor Heather Childress simply said, “.@RandPaul is right. Goodnight.”

In a separate interview with Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, Paul reflected on the earlier exchange and noted, “All Dr. Fauci could do was sputter and call me liar – but he never at any point in time addressed any of the facts that we laid out that the money he was giving to Wuhan was indeed for gain-of-function.”

It will be interesting to see if anything comes of this, as most conservatives will be skeptical that anything will, but Paul at least is doing what he can to make his beliefs known.
