Ron DeSantis Nemesis Charlie Crist Ambushed on ’The View’ for Previous Pro-Life Stance

“I’m pro-life, I opposed amnesty for illegal immigrants, I support traditional marriage, and I have never supported a new tax or big spending program.” Charlie Crist on a 2006 robocall. The View’s Ana Navarro dug into the Democrat candidate running for Florida Governor over the call.

Crist made the call when he was running as a Republican to become the Governor of Florida, he won that race and has since changed his party affiliation twice since then.

The robocall goes and he says, “I support a constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriage, and I oppose adoption by gay couples, and I work to ensure the right to display the Ten Commandments in public places.”

Navarro then asks after the clip played, “Those are your words. What would you say to skeptics like me who think you’ve changed parties because you’re a political mercenary and it was out of convenience? How do you convince me?”

Crist claimed, “I changed parties because my party changed.” He then complained about the “Tea Party” wing of the GOP and argued problems have “metastasized since then,” Adding, “I couldn’t stomach it anymore.” He also complained that Governor Desantis and the Republican party had become “anti-minority”.

Crist didn’t address what he had said in the 2006 robocall and when Navarro called him on it saying, “actually you were embracing a lot of the policy issues back then that Republicans still embrace now,” Crist just doubled down on his claim that the GOP has changed.

Sunny Hostin then asked Crist if he had changed his stance on marriage and abortion. Crist declared that he is pro-choice as well as pro-marriage equality.

Navarro who detests Fidel Castro then took Crist to task over his choice of Karla Hernandez-Mats as a running mate. Hernandez-Mats is a Castro sympathizer and Crist has chosen her as his choice for lieutenant governor.

Navarro said, “You’ve been running in Florida since dinosaurs were roaming the earth. You know what the Castro issue – you know what that means in South Florida. You were friends with people, with Cuban American colleagues in the state senate and congress.”

“Charlie, what were you thinking?! What were you thinking?! Did you vet her? Explain this to me,” Navarro asked. Crist replied, “I think she’s great.” He applauded his running mate’s career as a teacher adding that, “she’s a bit feisty.”

Crist has moved from a Republican to an Independent and is now ruing for Governor of Florida as a Democrat. It seems that he is trailing in the polls. It remains to be seen if he can get the votes to reclaim the Governor’s mansion.
