Russia Makes Threat to Ban Twitter in 30 Days If ‘Banned Content’ Is Not Removed

Russian Government officials have made a threat to Twitter that they must remove ‘banned content’ in the next 30 days or else Russia will ban Twitter in the country. Below is the tweet from @TPostMillennial.

Vadim Subbotin, who is the deputy head of Russian telecommunications watchdog Roskomnadzor, said, “Twitter is not reacting to our requests as they should. If the situation carries on then it will be blocked in a month without a court order.”

He went on, “our colleagues still have some time to engage in negotiations. We’ll monitor the situation for a month and make our decision within this period of time.”

According to Roskomnadzor ‘banned content’ means drugs, child pornography, and information about child suicide. All are considered ‘banned content’ in Russia and many people believe that it is wrong and immoral to display such content.

Some on the right in the U.S. have pointed out that Twitter allows pornography to all users on the platform while banning conservatives and former President Donald Trump indefinitely.

It seems unlikely that Twitter will remove the content so we will have to see if the Russian government does decide to ban Twitter.
