Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney, Fani Willis has made a request for a special grand jury to assist in the probe of former President Trump.
Amy Vanderpool shared the request to Twitter along with, “Fulton County, Georgia, DA Fani Willis has requested a special grand jury to assist in the probe of former President Trump’s attempts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results to “empower review of the matter” and due to the situation’s “complexity.”

In her letter to request the special grand jury, she writes, “received information indicating a reasonable probability that the State of Georgia’s administration of elections in 2020, including the State’s election of President of the United States, was subject to possible criminal disruptions.”
The letter was sent to Christopher S. Brasher, chief judge of Fulton County’s Superior Court. Willis is claiming she needs the special grand jury because “a significant number of witnesses and prospective witnesses have refused to cooperate with the investigation absent a subpoena requiring their testimony. By way of example, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, an essential witness o the investigation, has indicated that he will not participate in an interview or otherwise offer evidence until he is presented with a subpoena by my office.”
Willis launched the prob in February of last year after Raffensperger made an edited version of a phone call between himself and the president public. This request tells us that Willis is still pursuing this almost a year after the announcement of the probe.
The point of the special grand jury would allow Willis to subpoena witnesses, compel the production of documents, inspect and enter into certain offices for the purposes of the investigation through the special grand jury.
Willis told the Associated Press, “We’re going to just get the facts, get the law, be very methodical, very patient and, in some extent, unemotional about this quest for justice.”
Earlier this month, Raffensperger announced that he will be investigating potential illegal ballot harvesting from the 2020 election. Raffensperger said, “We do have some information. And we are going to investigate that. We did deploy drop boxes that were under 24/7 surveillance, and because they were then that really, you know, can indicate who dropped that information off, and we’re really just going through that. If people give us, you know, credible allegations, we want to make sure that we do that. And we have that right now as an ongoing investigation.”
Willis will need a majority of the county’s superior court judges to approve her request for it to proceed. Stay Tuned as we see what comes next in this ongoing saga.
