Those Who Rely on CNN’s ‘Reliable Sources’ Let Down as Brian Stelter’s Failing Show Gets Axed and He Departs the Network

In a widely anticipated move, it was announced today that CNN’s “Reliable Sources” weekly show has been canceled.

Host Brian Stelter, who will also no longer be with the network after the move, became the host of the show nearly nine years ago in 2013.

In a statement, CNN said, “We appreciate his contributions to the network and wish him well as he embarks on new endeavors.”

The show aired on Sunday and had been running since 1993, celebrating its 30th anniversary in March. The last episode will be on August 21.

Stelter promised to say more about the departure during that episode, but for now, he said, “It was a rare privilege to lead a weekly show focused on the press at a time when it has never been more consequential.”

CNN CEO Chris Licht informed Stelter of the decision yesterday and he has been making cuts throughout the network since taking the helm as part of Warner Bros.

Amy Entelis, CNN’s executive vice president for talent and content development said of the move, “Stelter came to CNN from the New York Times as the nation’s top media reporter.”

“He departs CNN an impeccable broadcaster. We are proud of what Brian and his team accomplished over the years, and we’re confident their impact and influence will long outlive the show,” Entelis added.

Digital strategist Greg Price noted in a tweet, “Liz Cheney and Brian Stelter are gone in the span of three days. This is amazing.”
