Trump Promises Executive Order to Protect Public Statuary and ‘Make the Cities Guard Their Monuments’

President Trump announced in an interview tonight that he will issue an executive order designed to protect public statuary, as statues around the country have been torn down or defaced amid protests in recent weeks.

“We’re going to do something very soon. We’re going to do an executive order. We’re going to make the cities guard their monuments, this is a disgrace,” he said.

“It’s all Democrats, usually liberal Democrats. Take a look. Whether it’s Chicago, it’s Democrat, Seattle, it’s Democrat. The state of Washington. It’s Democrat. Portland, it’s Democrat. All of these places are run by Democrats. Twenty out 20 are Democrat-run. They don’t know what they’re doing. And if Biden got in, this country would be a disaster,” he continued.

Earlier in Lafayette Square, U.S. Park Police sprayed some potential vandals with what appeared to be pepper spray to get them to move back after some groups were calling to take down the statue and ropes could be seen hanging off of a sculpture of President Andrew Jackson on a horse.

On Friday night in D.C., vandals toppled a statue of Confederate Gen. Albert Pike, the only outdoor Confederate memorial in the city by yanking it down with rope and later setting it ablaze as law enforcement looked on.
