WEF Panelist Suggests That We Need a ‘Recalibration’ of the Freedom of Speech Online

We reported earlier on how journalist Jack Posobiec was detained while covering the World Economic Forum currently taking place in Davos, Switzerland.

A clip from the forum now has gone viral as a panelist suggested that we need a “recalibration” of the freedom of speech online.

Twitter user “Wittgenstein” shared a video from the event in a tweet and said, “Australian eSafety commissioner Julie Inman Grant tells the World Economic Forum we need a ‘recalibration’ of freedom of speech.”

In the video, Grant began, “We are finding ourselves in a place where we have increasing polarization everywhere.”

Grant then claimed that due to that, “Everything feels binary when it doesn’t need to be.”

“So I think we’re going to have to think about a recalibration of a whole range of human rights that are playing out online,” Grant insisted.

As to the “recalibration,” Grant said that it would be “from freedom of speech to the freedom to be free from online violence.”

“Or the right of data protection to the right to child dignity,” Grant elaborated.

In another clip, the forum’s founder Klaus Schwab can be seen telling attendees that “The future is built by us” while shaking his fist.

As we noted in our previous report, Schwab had said that this year’s forum will be “the most timely and consequential” in its over 50-year history.
