Derek Chauvin’s Lawyer Files Motion for New Trial, Cites ‘Witness Intimidation’ Among Other Things

Tuesday, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s lawyer filed a motion for a new trial citing many different factors in including “witness intimidation”.

“Nelson filed the motion on the grounds of juror misconduct, and that the court abused its discretion for failing to agree to the defense’s requests for a change of venue and sequestering the jury.”

As we previously reported, “An Alternate Juror in the George Floyd trial mentioned that she would be worried about more riots if Dereck Chauvin had been found not guilty for the murder of George Floyd last May.

She explained, “The reason, at that time, was I did not know what the outcome was going to be, so I felt like either way you are going to disappoint one group or the other. I did not want to go through rioting and destruction again and I was concerned about people coming to my house if they were not happy with the verdict.”

Even someone who would have found him guilty mentioned how she feared for more riots from BLM if he wasn’t found guilty on some charge, as he was found guilty on all three Tuesday afternoon.”

Derek Chauvin’s lawyer Eric Nelson cited many factors to why he believed there needed to be a new trial saying, “the interests of justice; abuse of discretion that deprived the Defendant of a fair trial; prosecutorial and jury misconduct; errors of law at trial; and a verdict that is contrary to law.”

Nelson also mentioned the fear factor saying, “the publicity here was so pervasive and so prejudicial before and during this trial that it amounted to a structural defect in the proceedings,”.

Some may believe judges are most likely going to be scared of doing another trial. As fears of more riots seem to be held even by Democrats and those who believe Chauvin is guilty.

However, many also agree with Nelson that this wasn’t a fair trial and that many jurors and/or the Judge were scared or had their minds made up before the trial started.
