Amber Heard Disappears from Twitter amid Elon Musk’s Takeover

The Daily Mail reported on Thursday that Amber Heard’s Twitter account appears to have been deactivated within days of Elon Musk taking over.

Heard appears to be one of many celebrities or “elites” that are vacating or promising to vacate with Musk’s takeover and an announcement that there will be an $8 monthly fee for verified blue check accounts.

There is speculation that Heard’s departure may not be due to her ex’s takeover of Twitter, but could be related to the backlash she has received after the defamation trial between her and ex-husband Johnny Depp.

Many “elitists” have announced they are leaving the platform, and some aren’t willing to pay $8 a month for a blue check account.

Shonda Rhimes announced when Musk took over:

“Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye.”

Her account remains still active but she has not made any tweets since posting this.

Singer Toni Braxton left her account active but shared she will be staying off the platform.

“I’m shocked and appalled at some of the “free speech” I’ve seen on this platform since its acquisition. Hate speech under the veil of “free speech” is unacceptable; therefore I am choosing to stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other POC.”

Wrestler Mick Foley shared on Facebook that he is going to take a break from Twitter with the new ownership.

“TAKING A BREAK

I decided I needed a @twitter break, since the new ownership – and the misinformation and hate it seems to be encouraging – has my stomach in a knot. I really do enjoy connecting with all of you on social media, but it can get overwhelming sometimes. I think I’ll be back on in a few weeks, but in the meantime, I will continue to post on Facebook and Instagram. I hope all of you will be kind to one another. Please vote if you can too – our democracy seems to be hanging on by a thread.

Now, please enjoy this photo of Leatherface breaking through the line for a big gain.”

As we reported earlier, Sara Bareilles had decided not to log on to her account anymore, at least for now.

“Welp. It’s been fun Twitter. I’m out. See you on other platforms, peeps. Sorry, this one’s just not for me.”

William Shatner isn’t keen on paying $8 a month for his blue checkmark.

AOC also jumped in on the complaint train.

“Lmao at a billionaire earnestly trying to sell people on the idea that “free speech” is actually a $8/mo subscription plan”

Musk announced on the first of November the blue checkmark accounts would be $8 a month this has spurred much backlash. He also explained what it all included in a tweet.

“Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month. Price adjusted by country proportionate to purchasing power parity.”

“You will also get: – Priority in replies, mentions & search, which is essential to defeat spam/scam – Ability to post long video & audio – Half as many ads”

Things remain entertaining for many with Musk’s takeover.
