AOC Appears to be Among 16 Congressmen Arrested at SCOTUS Protest but Appears to be Escorted by Police Without Handcuffs

U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) was arrested earlier today along with 16 other members of congress.

Although the Supreme Court session is over, the protests over the overturning of Roe vs Wade continue outside the Supreme Court.

Today CPD Action along with members of the Democratic Women’s Caucus protested outside the Supreme Court. The group moved out on the street marching and chanting.

Capitol Police shared that “34 were arrested for crowding, obstructing or incommoding (DC Code § 22–1307) That arrest number includes 16 Members of Congress.”

Axios congress reporter tweeted a video of AOC and other members of congress being escorted away from the protest by capitol police.

“Multiple members of Congress, including @AOC, being arrested by Capitol Police for blocking traffic outside the Supreme Court in abortion rights demonstration”

Multiple people shared videos of AOC being escorted from out front of the Supreme Court. She has her hands behind her back appearing like she has been handcuffed. She is smiling while being escorted by police. At one point she raises her fist in the air confirming that she is not handcuffed.

The officer escorting her has one hand on AOC and another on a protester who is also being escorted away.

U.S. Representative Jackie Speier (D-CA), who was also arrested, shared how proud she was to participate in the protest as well as being arrested.

“Proud to march with my Democratic colleagues including ⁦⁦@DemWomenCaucus⁩ members, and get arrested for women’s rights, abortion rights, the rights for people to control their own bodies and the future and our democracy! #BansOffOurBodies #WeWontGoBack”

The members of congress seem proud that they were arrested, it appears they may use this incident to fundraise for their upcoming elections.
