Citing ‘Complete Failure’ to Lead DHS, 46 House Republicans Call for Alejandro Mayorkas to Resign

Almost 50 House Republicans are calling for the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign.

“46 House Republicans call on Mayorkas to resign over ‘complete failure’ to lead DHS”

Oklahoma Republican Congressman Kevin Hern led the way with himself and 45 other colleagues in writing a letter. The letter stated, “In light of recent reports displaying your failure to execute the primary mission of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to secure our nation from its many threats through your inability and refusal to enforce the immigration laws, we call on you to resign as Secretary of Homeland Security.”

Notable cosigners included Reps. Tom Tiffany, (R-Wis)., Tom Rice, (R-S.C.), Yvette Herrell, (R-N.M.), Diana Harshbarger, (R-Tenn.), Lauren Boebert, (R-Colo.), Chip Roy, (R-Texas) and Russ Fulcher, (R-Idaho). This comes as Border Patrol had 178,000 encounters in December alone capping off a year filled with illegal migrant crossings.

The letter continued, “The suspension and cancellation of border barrier construction has further exacerbated the crisis and is yet another strategy you have reversed course on, but we have seen no production. There is no national security if our border is wide open.” While the Trump administration was building the wall, Biden stopped its construction upon entering office.

As Biden has yet to visit the border, a growing amount of Republicans in both chambers of Congress are growing aggravated as they see the Biden Administration asleep at the wheel in terms of border security. We will have to see if Republicans continue to keep the pressure on the Biden Administration over the ongoing “Biden” border crisis.
