Former president Barak Obama sat down with the hosts of “Pod Save America” to discuss a myriad of topics before the midterms. He had some words of advice for other Democrats mainly on their messaging and cancel culture push.
Dems have called in support from the two-term president, to help them with midterm elections as many Democrats are trying to distance themselves from the failing current President Joe Biden. Obama is set to help out in Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin before the midterms.
Obama who is well known for his speeches had some advice for Democrats. During the interview, he stated, “We spend enormous amounts of time and energy and resources pointing out the latest crazy thing he said, or how rude or mean some of these Republican candidates behaved”. Talking about former President Donald Trump.
Many Democrats are making these midterms about running against Trump who no longer holds political office. It worked well for them when he was president, but there are more surmounting issues that Democrats don’t seem to acknowledge. Obama added, “That’s probably not something that in the minds of most voters overrides their basic interests. Can I pay the rent? What are gas prices? How am I dealing with childcare?”
This disconnect makes many people feel the Democrat party is single-mindedly not for them only against Trump, even if he isn’t in political office.
Obama also took a shot at cancel culture and making people feel like they are “walking on eggshells”. Obama shared, “My family, my kids, work that gives me satisfaction, having fun, hell, not being a buzzkill. And sometimes Democrats are. Sometimes people just want to not feel as if they are walking on eggshells, and they want some acknowledgment that life is messy and that all of us, at any given moment, can say things the wrong way, make mistakes.”
Democrats are having a hard time changing their tune after it seemed to work for them so well while former President Trump was in office. Their anger for Trump and their lack of empathy for the common man may cost them the House and the Senate this midterm election.
