Journalist Liz Wheeler asked the CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk if Apple and Google happen to ban Twitter from their app stores, would he roll out his own alternative phone.
Musk replied:
“I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone”
Since Musk announced his plan to acquire Twitter, take it private and make it a free speech platform instead of a “woke social justice platform” that it has become known as in the eyes of many, Musk has faced enormous backlash from those who found Twitter to be their “safe space”.
Some of the companies that had advertised with Twitter before the acquisition announced they would be halting until they evaluated what Musk was doing with the company.
Shortly after taking over the company, Musk announced the blue check accounts would have a monthly fee. After backlash from Stephen King, Musk settled on $8 dollars ($7.99) a month for the premium accounts instead of $20. This would allow more access to individuals to become verified users as well as provide a new income source for Twitter.
This is one move that has prompted “celebrities” to start to leave the platform along with the fact that there would be less censoring of content they may be uncomfortable with.
The rollout of this has been rocky and Musk has temporarily paused new verified accounts, as they work to make them more secure so that imposter accounts aren’t able to cause havoc.
Last weekend, CBS News announced that they would no longer be utilizing Twitter to share their content, temporarily at least. That stance didn’t last very long and they were back to posting within 48 hours of their decision.
Musk views Twitter as a town hall and wishes to see an exchange of ideas. Musk is also not for complete chaos but doesn’t want people to be exiled from the platform for sharing ideas that may offend others.
Time will tell if Apple and or Google will move to ban Twitter because of the direction that Musk has taken the company in.
