Linda Sarsour ‘Mentee’ & Black Lives Matter Organizer Killed in Louisville Attempted Car Jacking

It was reported today that Hamza “Travis” Nagdy was shot and killed shortly before 12:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Crittenden Drive, becoming the latest victim in a record year of gun violence in Louisville.

Several members of the Louisville community who have been involved in the Black Lives Matter protests and riots that have taken place after Breonna Taylor’s death said Nagdy was a leader for protesters and the movement.

Left-Wing organizer Linda Sarsour tweeted out about the death of Nagdy and her involvement with his activism, “One of our youth/mentees was shot today in Louisville in an attempted car-jacking and my heart is shattered.”

“He was a young Arab American boy who was committed to Black liberation & he reminded me so much of myself. I took him as a little brother. I can’t,” Sarsour added.

Sarsour also tweeted out a picture of herself with Nagdy and said, “Rest in power, Travis.”

A few hundred people gathered for a vigil honoring Nagdy this evening at Jefferson Square Park, where he spent much of his time and candles were lit while chants to bring his killer to justice rang out.

Video shows that many of those gathered at the vigil held signs and flags in honor of Nagdy and the Black Lives Matter movement which was then followed by a march through downtown Louisville.

Another video purports to show the aftermath of that march through the city, which includes broken windows on businesses where there are boards still in place, presumably from the riots and protests from September.
