Nashville Police Chief Identifies Shooter as Transgender who Mapped and Surveilled School before Attack

During the most recent press briefing on the school shooting in Nashville, TN, Police Chief John Drake confirmed the identity of the shooter as Audrey Hale, who identified as transgender. Hale was also previously a student at The Covenant School he confirmed once again.

Drake shared that Hale had mapped out the attack and had also surveilled the school beforehand. He also shared that there was another location that the attacker had planned for but determined there was too much security.

Drake announced there was a manifesto and other writings they were currently going through. He told the reporter who asked if the shooter’s identity had anything to do with the shooting that they have a theory they are working on currently which centers around her transgender identity.

This morning at 10:13 am CT a call came into Nashville police about an active shooter at the school. Police responded quickly and the shooter was taken out by 10:27 am. The shooter had made her way to the second level of the school and started shooting in a lobby area killing three children, all of who were nine years old as well as three adult staff members.

Metro Nashville PD shared the identities of those who were fatally shot:

“The 6 victims fatally shot by the active shooter at Covenant School are identified as: Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all age 9, Cynthia Peak, age 61, Katherine Koonce, age 60, and Mike Hill, age 61.”
