New House Minority Leader Who Implied it’s Racist to Criticize Violent BLM Riots now says he will Push Back Against Political Extremism

House minority leader, Hakeem Jeffries shared that he is back in Washington D.C. and ready to push back against political extremism.

“Back in Washington. Ready to lift up Democratic values. And push back against political extremism.”

In 2021 Jeffries shared with The Washington Post that he believes anyone who criticized the violent BLM riots from the summer of 2020 is racist. Comparing the BLM riots to January 6th is also racist according to Jeffries.

Jeffries was speaking to the Post about the January 6th and former President Donald Trump at the time. The clip from Jeffries starts, “When all else fails and you don’t have a defense on the merits, play the race card, is apparently the strategy of Donald Trump and his layers.”

Jeffries then called it “no surprise” and accused Trump of fanning the flames of “racial hatred” though out his presidency.

Jeffries added, “It should not surprise us that he wants to create some kind of false equivalence by raising the specter of the Black Lives Matter movement as some type of fake and phony and false defense.”

Jeffries was trying to deflect from comparisons made by former President Trump of the 2020 summer of violence to January 6th.

Amid the violent protests in the summer of 2020, Jeffries took to the House floor to deliver a speech that was in support of the rioters.

“To the protesters: we hear you, we see you, we are you. We’re sick and tired of being sick and tired. America is a great country we’ve come a long way, we still have a long way to go. We’re tired of police violence in a country where the Declaration of Independence promises life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We’re tired of police violence in a country where the Pledge of Allegiance promises liberty and justice for all. We’re tired of police violence in a country where the Constitution promises equal protection under the law. We’re sick and tired of being sick and tired.”

Now back in Washington D.C., Jeffries shared he is set to fight against political extremism, but what does he view as extreme? Based on his comments and stances in the past, the violence that plagued the country in the summer of 2020 is not political extremism. However now to question election results it seems is.

It appears there is no change in the rhetoric from the left and we will see what comes of Jeffries’s words.
