Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler Cornered in Public by Antifa and Accused of Permanently Injuring Protesters by ‘Gassing Them’ via Portland PD

Antifa members and activists cornered Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (D-OR) in a video that came out this morning and accused him of gassing them which they say will affect them for the rest of their lives. Below you can see the 47-second clip of the confrontation between Mayor Wheeler and Antifa.

The Mayor was out to eat at breakfast when Antifa confronted him and began accusing him. However, Wheeler practically let Antifa do what they want this summer as protests and riots broke out in our view, with few exceptions.

Mayor Wheeler was one of the first mayors to ban the use of tear gas in the city and the police use pepper spray, not tear gas, as it was mentioned in the tweet by Post Millenial’s Ian Miles Cheong. Wheeler for the first time fully denounced the violence from Antifa in a video statement that came as surprising to some as he waited a long time to do so.

He said, “My good faith efforts at de-escalation have been met with ongoing violence and even scorn from radical Antifa and anarchists.”

Tear gas had been employed by Portland police during the riots which engulfed the city over the summer despite Wheeler discouraging their use. In September, Wheeler formally banned the city’s police from using tear gas against protesters and rioters, one of the only mayors in the United States to do so.

Wheeler noted this fact to the activists, to which one replied “but you already gassed us.”

The activist claimed that the use of tear gas against rioters was like “a sentence for the rest of [their] lives.” “The gas you used on us will affect us for the rest of our lives,” the activist continued.

While long-term exposure to tear gas can cause known health problems, the effects, when used against rioters in an open space, will largely dissipate in 15-20 minutes.

The activists were eventually asked to leave the mayor alone by a waiter, which prompted one of the activists to tell Wheeler that he is a “war criminal” with “blood on your hands.”

Wheeler has been one of the most lenient Mayors with Antifa and BLM. Mayor Wheeler blamed Trump supporters for the violence until yesterday. Now, he is being confronted by his own side.
