Report: Former and Current Staffers Allege Poor Communication, Low Morale in VP Kamala Harris’ Office

Vice President Harris has faced extreme scrutiny over her lack of leadership concerning the Southern border crisis. Adding to the scrutiny of Harris, POLITICO reportedly interviewed 22 current and former aides from Harris’ office and allege that tensions are very high on Harris’ team.

Politico alleges that prominent issues in the office have been a lack of communication and distrust between lower-level aides and senior officials, especially with Harris’ chief of staff Tina Flournoy. The communication and distrust have created a “tense and at times dour office atmosphere”.

Aides claimed that Flournoy created a culture “where ideas are ignored or met with harsh dismissals and decisions are dragged out.” These claims of Flournoy being a poor leader were supported by a report from CNBC. CNBC’s report alleged that Flournoy “effectively shut out” many of Harris’ top donors, business friends, and political allies.

It seems that Harris, who has faced attacks since Day 1 of the Biden presidency over the Southern border, caused mayhem in her office after suddenly deciding to visit El Paso last week. Harris’ travel aides, responsible for planning all travel arrangements, were “left scrambling” over her rash, sudden decision to visit the border.

Politico alleges that, according to two current administration officials, Harris is responsible for a lot of the issues occurring in her office. One individual familiar with Harris’ office and its operations said: “People are thrown under the bus from the very top, there are short fuses and it’s an abusive environment. It’s not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. It’s not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s**t.”

This description clearly infuriated Symone Sanders, a spokesperson for Harris. Sanders strongly refuted the perception of the Harris’ office that the Politico article showed. Sander told Politico: “We are not making rainbows and bunnies all day. What I hear is that people have hard jobs and I’m like ‘welcome to the club’. We have created a culture where people if there is anything anyone would like to raise, there are avenues for them to do so. Whoever has something they would like to raise, they should raise it directly.”
