Ron DeSantis: Florida Schools Will Not Have a Mask Mandate

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis said that Florida schools will not be having mask mandates this fall when students return to school.

“Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says there will be no mask mandates in schools even if the Florida Legislature needs to pass a new law.”

“There’s been talk about potentially people advocating at the federal level imposing compulsory masks on kids. We’re not doing that in Florida, OK?” DeSantis said. “We need our kids to breathe.”

DeSantis continued saying, “There shouldn’t be any coercive mandates on our schools. There’s going to be, it looks like, a campaign in Washington to try to change that. At the end of the day, we gotta start putting our kids first. Is it really comfortable, is it really healthy for them to be muzzled and have their breathing obstructed all day long in school? I don’t think it is.”

It is clear he doesn’t want any COVID restrictions in Florida as we reported previously:

It was reported yesterday, first by the Washington Post, that Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ re-election campaign has released new merchandise that are available for purchase including shirts and koozies that say, “Don’t Fauci My Florida.”

The phrase is a reference to the COVID-19 restrictions endorsed by infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, which have been bucked by DeSantis.

The governor told reporters this week that he predicts a “normal school year” without any mask mandates, and said there would be no penalties for people who violate a mandate imposed by a school district.

Some could say Governor DeSantis is standing up for Florida’s children by making sure they won’t have to wear a mask in school. Since the beginning, DeSantis has made it clear he doesn’t want mask mandates in Flordia, especially on children.
