Sen Rick Scott Calls for Democrats to Enact 25th Amendment to Remove President Biden

August 8th northern cities Sar-e-Pul, Kunduz, and Taloqan provincial capitols, in Afghanistan, to fall to the Taliban. This all as the deadline, of August 31st, for American troops to out of the country, became more of a reality. Three days later the capitols of  Badakhshan, Baghlan, and Farah provinces all fall to the Taliban. On the 13th of August Kandahar, the second-largest city in Afghanistan falls to the Taliban two days before the Taliban took over the capitol, Kabul.

During all of this, pentagon press secretary Kirby stated on the 12th of August, “The mission right now in Afghanistan… is to continue the drawdown. General McKenzie now has the authorities to assist the Afghan National Security Forces where and when he finds it feasible to do so.”

Joe Biden headed to Camp David as the Taliban escalated their take over. This escalation caught Biden off guard as he rushed back to the White House to give a speech on the matter before heading back to his vacation.

With all of this Republican Senator Rick Scott asks, “Is Joe Biden capable of discharging the duties of his office, or has the time come to exercise the provisions of the 25th Amendment?”. Scott had retweeted a post from a few days before citing many of the president’s failings including the U.S. southern border crisis, inflation, and the U.S. debt.

August 12 Scott tweeted, “Inflation is raging. The debt ceiling expired & U.S. debt is headed to $45 TRILLION. Kabul is falling to the Taliban & encounters in the #BidenBorderCrisis just hit a 20 YEAR HIGH. Democrats control the House, Senate & @WhiteHouse. What in the world is Joe Biden doing?”

August 16th Scott added, “After the disastrous events in Afghanistan, we must confront a serious question: Is Joe Biden capable of discharging the duties of his office, or has time come to exercise the provisions of the 25th Amendment?”

The 25th amendment allows the vice president along with a majority of principal officers of the executive departments to declare the president unfit in a written document sent to congress. The vice president immediately becomes ‘acting president’. It remains this way until congress settles it to either reinstate the president’s powers or move forward with impeachment. The vice president remains ‘acting president’ until congress makes a move.

The fall of Kabul in the news and social media shows hordes of Afghanis rushing the airport trying to gain access out of the country. With such a mass of people sprawling out on the tarmac, it looks like utter chaos. The most infamous video shows many Afghanis holding on to the landing gear of a carrier jet, as it departs from the airport. Seven people fell to their deaths in that incident.

Biden delivered a speech yesterday in which he addressed that he did not anticipate the Taliban take over to happen so quickly. Biden spread the blame to the previous administration and Afghans. Biden did not take any questions after his speech and left the White House shortly after to return to his vacation.

It seems unlikely that the 25th amendment would be used on the president as even before he came into office questions about his mental state were already out. Biden’s mumbling and missteps in his speeches are laughed off and addressed as just gaffes. Although he seems to get lost in his words unless reading from a teleprompter, there seems to be no serious consideration of invoking the 25th amendment.
