Shania Twain had Dinner with Oprah Winfrey and She had to Change the Subject from Religion to Keep it from Being Ruined

Country singer Shania Twain recounted recently one of her “most memorable dinners” on “Table Manners” a podcast hosted by Jennie and Lennie Ware. The dinner she decided to share about was one with daytime legend Oprah Winfrey.

Twain told her hosts, “She is just such a smart lady, and it’s just great to sit and have real talks,” speaking of Winfrey.

The pair had gone out to a restaurant to dine. Twain noted, “as we started talking about religion, it all went sour. So I said, let’s stop talking about religion.”

Twain described Winfrey as “quite religious”. Twain said about herself, “I’m not religious in the sense that I’m dedicated to a religion. I’m much more of a spiritual person. I’m a seeker.”

Ware said, “But at least you knew to just stop it right there.”

Twain then said, “You know how everyone always says, ‘Never talk about politics or religion.'”

“It just wasn’t debatable. There was no room for debate. And I like to debate. Canadians like to debate everything. So I’m like, OK, I’m going to change the subject,” she added.

Winfrey was raised in the Baptist church and has publicly called herself a Christian. She also admits she doesn’t attend church every Sunday but she does pray every night.
