Earlier tonight, The New York Times reported that Vice President Mike Pence told President Donald Trump today that he did not believe he had the power to block congressional certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
Trump has since issued to a statement calling the report “fake news.” The president insisted in the statement that “he never said that” and that the two “are in total agreement that the Vice President has the power to act.”
“The November 3rd election was corrupt in contested states, and in particular it was not in accordance with the Constitution in that they made large scale changes to the election rules and regulations as dictated by local judges and politicians, not by state legislatures,” Trump continued in the statement.
Trump then pointed out that “This means that it was illegal.” The president believes that “Our Vice President has several options under the U.S. Constitution.”
“He can decertify the results or send them back to the states for change and certification. He can also decertify the illegal and corrupt results and send them back to the House of Representatives for the one vote for one state tabulation,” Trump concluded, sharing possibilities on what might occur tomorrow.

CNN has now also reported that they have a source who is familiar with the conversation and that they confirmed what The New York Times reported.
Trump warned Pence that it would be politically “damaging” for Pence to refuse to block certification and that Pence “gently” informed Trump during the meeting that the power doesn’t exist for him to derail the process, according to the report.
