Trump Says That Herschel Walker Has Told Him That He Will Run For U.S. Senate in Georgia in 2022

In a radio interview yesterday, former President Trump said that former NFL player Herschel Walker told him he plans to make a run for the Senate in 2022 to unseat U.S. Sen Raphael Warnock (D-GA).

Trump said on the “Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show” that Walker told him he’s going to and so Trump thinks he will, while discussing the possibility of Walker running for a Senate seat.

Trump explained, “I had dinner with him a week ago. He’s a great guy. He’s a patriot. He’s a very loyal person.”

In February, we reported that conservative journalist John Gizzi floated the possibility of Walker running for the seat after former U.S. Sen David Perdue announced he wouldn’t seek it.

The Hill noted that three other Georgia Republicans have already announced plans to take on Warnock next year, including state Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black and two military veterans, Latham Saddler and Kelvin King as well as U.S. House Rep Buddy Carter, who has also said that he will run but only if Walker decides not to.

Prior to the announcement, ACT for America’s Bridgitte Gabriel had said that “I think Herschel Walker would make an INCREDIBLE Senator. America needs more brave patriotic fighters to drain the DC swamp!”

Liberals on Twitter celebrated the news, claiming that it would make things easier for Warnock, with one even accusing Republicans of racism over the news.

An Amy Klobuchar supporter, Janice Hough tweeted, “Herschel Walker is running for Senate in Georgia? This is good news, for @ReverendWarnock

Former Bill Clinton White House aide Keith Boykin made the accusation of racism in a tweet where he claimed, “They picked Clarence Thomas because of Thurgood Marshall. They picked Alan Keyes because of Barack Obama. They picked Sarah Palin because of Hillary Clinton. And now they’ve picked Herschel Walker because of Raphael Warnock. Republicans love playing racial identity politics.”

Walker has been a big supporter of Trump and spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention so it is hard to see how racism could be a factor but nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if he makes an official announcement soon and if he is then able to take back the seat for the GOP.
