Yale Distances Itself from NYC Psychiatrist Who Said She Fantasized About Unthinkable Violence Against White People

Yale University appears to be distancing itself from a psychiatrist that talked about how she fantasizes, “unloading a revolver into the head of any White person…burying their body and wiping mat bloody hands as I walked away relatively guiltless with a bounce in my step. Liked I did the world a f*****g favor”. In early April, Dr. Aruna Khilanani went on a race-hating tirade against White people during a talk she gave once invited to speak at the Child Study Center on Yale’s campus. An audio recording of the talk was posted by former NYT writer, Bari Weiss, on Substack and titled, “The Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind”.

Some notably disgusting quotes from the lecture were annotated by Bari Weiss:

More shocking quotes from Khilanani:

White people make my blood boil. Around five years ago, I took some actions. I systematically white-ghosted most of my white friends. And got rid of the couple white BIPOCs that snuck in my crew too.

Khilanani believes that talking to white people about their race is, “a waste of our breath. We are asking a demented, violent predator who thinks that they are a saint or a superhero to accept responsibility. It ain’t gonna happen. They have five holes in their brain. It’s like banging your head against a brick wall.”

This sickening, egregious amount of racial hatred doesn’t end with the lecture recording. The Substack article also has a transcript of an interview Khilanani conducted with Katie Herzog in which Khilanani defends her remarks proudly.

Yale University finally released a statement disavowing their guest speaker, Khilanani. The statement describes “the tone and content antithetical to the values of the school.” The full statement reads as:

On April 6, a speaker who is not affiliated with Yale gave a Child Study Center Grand Rounds talk, with the provocative title “The Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind.” After the event, several faculty members expressed concern to the Yale School of Medicine’s Office of Academic and Professional Development and the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion about the content of the talk.

Based on these concerns, School of Medicine leaders, including Dean Brown and Deputy Dean Latimore, in consultation with the Chair of the Child Study Center, reviewed a recording of the talk and found the tone and content antithetical to the values of the school. Because Grand Rounds are typically posted online after the event and in consideration of Yale’s commitment to the right of free expression, school leaders further reviewed the Report of the Committee on Freedom of Expression at Yale.

In deciding whether to post the video, we weighed our grave concern about the extreme hostility, imagery of violence, and profanity expressed by the speaker against our commitment to freedom of expression. We ultimately decided to post the video with access limited to those who could have attended the talk— the members of the Yale community. To emphasize that the ideas expressed by the speaker conflict with the core values of Yale School of Medicine, we added the disclaimer: “This video contains profanity and imagery of violence. Yale School of Medicine expects the members of our community to speak respectfully to one another and to avoid the use of profanity as a matter of professionalism and acknowledgment of our common humanity. Yale School of Medicine does not condone imagery of violence or racism against any group.”

While the video is only accessible through Yale’s website with the usage of a student ID, below is a compilation of Tiktok and Youtube clips of Khilanani discussing race, as well as the recording of her Yale talk.

Khilanani has received lots of pushback on Twitter. Professor of Social and Natural Science at Yale, Nicholas Christakis, attacked Khlianani, saying, “The racism expressed by Dr. Aruna Khilanani in a Grand Rounds at Yale…is deeply worrisome & counter-productive…her views must be soundly rejected…the other arguments this speaker makes, and their pejorative generalizations about people based on their race, that are worrisome and often unfounded. It’s her line of argument, leaving aside her sharing of her fantasies, that is problematic and racist.”

One Twitter user proudly announced that he “reported Dr. Aruna Khilanani for blatant racism and behavior unbecoming of the medical profession” and encourage others to do the same.

Political commentator Jon Miller called for Khilanani’s Twitter account to be suspended, saying, “Why does Aruna Killawhitey @aruna_khilanani, who says she wants to unload a revolver into the head of any White person that got in her way and then bury their body with her bloody hands still get to promote her racist homicidal content on Twitter @jack?”
