American Patriot Mark Lutchman Slams Gwen Berry for Not Honoring National Anthem and Flag in Viral Video

Political commentator Mark Lutchman scrutinized US Olympian Gwen Berry after she turned away from the flag while the National Anthem was playing at the Olympic trials in Oregon.

Lutchman described this decision made by Berry to be “a complete and utter embarrassment to our country.” Lutchman attacked Berry for deciding to paint such a poor picture of our country, especially after she was given a spot to represent us as an Olympian: “Gwen Berry, you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself! You are sitting here, as a black woman who claims to be so oppressed, who claims to be so victimized by a brutal white supremacist nation that doesn’t value black women or black people, yet you had been chosen to represent this nation that you dislike so much, that has oppressed you so much, you have been chosen to represent us among the rest of the world! And this, this is how you repay this country that has gotten you to where you are today?”

A fired up Lutchman continued, noting that Berry has the right to demonstrate in such a way, but believes that her actions will harm young children that look up to U.S. Olympians:

“I am absolutely humiliated by your actions on behalf of this country. We don’t agree with what you did. Did you have the right to do it? Sure. We have the right to do a lot of things that are morally reprehensible – and are a flat-out slap in the face to the country – but the fact that you actually did this stuff and you stand behind it – you have doubled down…in response to the criticism and backlash [received]…and believe you are absolutely justified in what you’ve done – young little black girls are supposed to look up to you and see a role model…and learns something from your story….gather something from your experience but instead they’re going to look at you and have a negative perception of the country that they’re being raised in…they’re going to grow up and look at like women like you?!”

Berry had doubled down, defending her actions on Twitter, saying “people in American rally patriotism over basic morality” and alleged that all the “phony sentiments regarding black lives were just a hoax”.

Lutchman also asked what the ramifications would be for an athlete from China if they decided to protest their anthem for some form of social justice: “I hope you really think about the message you are sending to not only people in our country, but to the rest of the world…could you imagine [if] an athlete from China did something to this?”

Berry has continued to be aggressive towards people with differing opinions from her own. Rita Panahi, a Conservative columnist, posted a photoshopped image that replaced Berry’s person with a photo of Hunter Biden in Berry’s replies. Berry replied to Panahi’s meme, saying, “Is that your dad?? Y’all look alike”. Panahi fired back, saying, “Oh dear. She’s racist, too. Thinks we all lookalike. Also thinks a brown skinned woman looks like Biden spawn”. Then, shockingly, Berry alleged that she isn’t racist because “Black ppl can’t be racist silly girl”.

A multitude of rightwing figures like Lutchman have scrutinized Berry over her actions. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) called for the removal of Berry from the Olympic team over her disrespect to the country.

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AK) also called for Berry’s removal, saying, “if Ms. Berry is so embarrassed by America, then there’s no reason she needs to compete for our country”.

However, President Biden’s press secretary Jen Psaki defended Berry’s actions when asked for comments on Berry’s actions. Psaki said, “part of that pride in our country means recognizing there are moments where we as a country haven’t lived up to our highest ideals, and it means respecting of people granted to them in the Constitution to peacefully protest”.
