‘BROS’ Flops at the Box Office, ‘Straight People… Just Didn’t Show Up’ Says Star

“BROS” flopped at the box office this weekend. Earning just $4.8 million, including Thursday’s $500,000 and Friday’s $1.84 million. This was a lower debut than Jo Koy’s Easter Sunday which grossed $5.44 million in August.

The film stars Bill Eichner and Luke Macfarlane in a homosexual romantic comedy, the first mainstream wide theatrical release of a same-sex couple rom-com. The trailers and media coverage emphasized this “groundbreaking” feat of the film over its comedy.

With the horrible debut, Eichner had some thoughts as to why the film’s first weekend was a disaster.

Eichner starts his four-part tweet by setting the scene of a sold-out viewing he snuck into in LA.

“Last night I snuck in and sat in the back of a sold out theater playing BROS in LA. The audience howled with laughter start to finish, burst into applause at the end, and some were wiping away tears as they walked out. It was truly magical. Really. I am VERY proud of this movie.”

He then jumps to Rolling Stone, listing the film on Best Comedies of the 21st Century already, and talks about the theater chain that was going to pull the trailer because of the “gay content”.

“Rolling Stone already has BROS on the list of the best comedies of the 21st century. What’s also true is that at one point a theater chain called Universal and said they were pulling the trailer because of the gay content. (Uni convinced them not to). America, fuck yeah, etc etc.”

He then bemoans, “That’s just the world we live in”. The movie has glowing reviews [from Hollywood] and an “A CinemaScore”. But what it doesn’t have is “straight people” showing up. Eichner calls this “disappointing” but has a solution unless you are a “homophobic weirdo”.

Eichner commands, “Everyone who ISN’T a homophobic weirdo should go see BROS tonight! You will have a blast! And it *is* special and uniquely powerful to see this particular story on a big screen, esp for queer folks who don’t get this opportunity often. I love this movie so much. GO BROS!!!”

So there you have it, you must be a “homophobic weirdo” if you don’t have an urge to watch the same-sex rom-com that is full of a woke agenda.

Maybe people just prefer patriotic traditional movies without a “woke” agenda attached to them like the record-breaking Maverick: Top Gun.
