U.S. Rep. Cortez (D-NY) tweeted, “Expand the court.” and U.S. Rep. Omar (D-MN) retweeted what AOC said, following Justice Barrett’s confirmation. AOC followed that statement by saying, “Republicans do this because they don’t believe Dems have the stones to play hardball as they do. And for a long time, they’ve been correct. But do not let them bully the public into thinking their bulldozing is normal but a response isn’t. There is a legal process for expansion.” See tweet:
Senator Markey (D-MA) went on a Twitter rant tweeting “We must expand the Supreme Court.”
He followed that statement attacking “originalism” tweeting, “Originalism is racist. Originalism is sexist. Originalism is homophobic. Originalism is just a fancy word for discrimination.”
In addition to that, he went after the filibuster saying, “As soon as the Democrats retake the Senate we must abolish the filibuster.”
It is safe to say that if the Democrats take the Senate and White House they will expand the courts and end the filibuster, setting a dangerous precedent by altering the number of Supreme Court Justices as Republicans could do the same.
If the Democrats were to take back the Senate many radical reforms like, giving statehood to Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. would give the Democrats another 4 senators making it almost impossible for the GOP to regain the Senate if lost.
V.P. Biden has now begun “looking into” court-packing after the confirmation of Barrett. He still has yet to give the voters a direct answer on his stance.
Time will tell if the confirmation of ACB will be the start of the destruction of our very own Republic.
