Biden’s New Deputy of Outreach and Political Strategy Encouraged Portland Federal ICE Building Riots, Claimed ICE Terrorizes Immigrant Communities

President Biden’s new deputy of outreach and political strategy, Natalie Montelongo encouraged the shutting down of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices back in 2018 amidst protests against ICE raids and former President Donald Trump’s strict border policy. Montelongo’s now deleted tweet reads: “If you’re looking for a way to help – look up your nearest ICE office and shut-it-down”

In another deleted tweet, Montelongo voiced her support for the disbanding of the entire ICE agency saying:

“This administration’s actions are not motivated by public safety concerns – they’re terrorizing immigrant communities. #ICE didn’t exist 15 years ago, it doesn’t have to exist now”

During this time in 2018, vicious mobs were surrounding ICE offices across Portland causing havoc across the city. On June 19th, 2018, a group of protestors surrounded the entirety of an ICE office in Southwest Portland, barricading the doors and blocking the driveway. Protestors were standing guard at the doors, preventing ICE workers from leaving the building.

The Portland Police Bureau’s deputy chief, Robert Day did nothing for hours to help protect or comfort the trapped federal workers. Day did nothing to restore law and order in the city responding to pleas for help saying, “At this time I am denying your request for additional resources.”

At the time, Mayor Ted Wheeler tweeted out his plan of inaction and disapproval of ICE saying, “I do not want the @PortlandPolice to be engaged or sucked into a conflict, particularly from a federal agency that I believe is on the wrong track.”

The mayor not only encouraged the protest but also vowed that he would not help the federal workers: “If [ICE is] looking for a bailout from this mayor, they are looking in the wrong place.”

It is quite ironic that someone like Montelongo, who supported harassment and protests towards federal workers in ICE is now a federal worker under the Biden administration serving as the deputy political director. Will a former anarchist supporter like Montelongo represent America first values in her outreach and work under Biden? Or will she put the livelihood of illegal aliens trespassing into our country above hardworking, taxpaying Americans?
